Rokenbok Power Plant

Hunter has his own ideas of what he wants to build and seldom follows the building plans offered by Rokenbok. He never wants to tear anything down and build something new!!! Instead, he simply wants to "build something new" by adding on to existing structures and existing functions. All the things he can now do with it are really impressive, but it has grown so big that we can no longer get it all in one picture. Currently, it is in a 20' x 20' room and is wall to wall (except for walking space) in one direction.

Hunter can now turn on and run all his eleven Conveyors (difficult to see as the Conveyors are at the back side of the picture) at the same time. With the balls going in all sort of directions and his three monorail trains at the same time set on "cruise control", this creates a room full of action. Hunter wants me to ask you if you think his eleven elevators running at the same time is a world record for Rokenbok.

As far as I know, we have purchased at least one of every item offered by Rokenbok and many, boxes of construction items such as beams and blocks, monorail, and chutes and hoppers.

City Garbage Factory

Products Used: Action Factory Start Set, RC Tower Crane, Braces and Supports, Beams and Blocks, Ramps and Decks, Building Decorations, RC Loader, RC TransGripper and Trailer, RC Emergency Speedster, RC Power Sweeper & Cargo Trailer.

My father and I built a table to put my City Garbage Factory on. Then I decided to make a mural of a city for the background of my construction project.

Rokenbok Energy Center

Products Used: Action Factory Start Set, Monorail Start Set, Tower & Track, Monorail Track, RC Tower Crane, Beams & Blocks, Auto Center, Rail Station, RC Monorail (4x), RC Loader (3x), RC Speedster (2x). RC Forklift, RC Dozer, RC TransGripper (2x), Monorail Switch (6x), Monorail 4-Way Cross Track, etc.

The Rokenbok Energy Center is an electric power plant with two coal-fired boilers. The coal for the boilers is mined at the strip mine at the other end of the tracks.

The RC Sweeper strips the coal off the ground and dumps it into the storage bin or directly into the tower crane's bucket. The crane can then load the trains directly or dump the coal into one of the hoppers next to the tracks. The tracks cross beneath the crane to provide ample loading points for the trains.

Once loaded the trains commence to bring the supply of coal to the power plant's coal storage grounds. Here the trains may either dump the coal directly onto the motorized conveyer or into the storage hoppers for the RC Loader to retrieve later. The RC Dozer pushes any stray bits of coal into the large storage bin.

Once the coal is burned in the boilers, the bottom ash (blue) is directed into the bottom ash hopper on the ground between the two boilers. The fuel gasses are directed through the precipitator (pump station) where the fly ash (red) is removed from the air and directed into its own storage bin. There are many paths for the bottom ash and fly ash to take so that the plant can continue to run if one of them gets plugged or fails.

Once the bins are full, the bottom ash and fly ash are loaded onto the cargo trailers pulled by the RC Speedsters and hauled away. The Speedsters take the used coal back to the site of the coal mine, where it eventually becomes usable coal again (only in the Rokenbok world!).

There is also a large, two-cell cooling tower which keeps the plants' cooling water at a low enough temperature for efficient operation. Plus, the plant has its own garage to keep all of its vehicles in top working order and the railroad company has a train repair shop located between the mine and the power plant.

Being a mechanical engineer in the electic utility industry, I have truly enjoyed building my own model power plant in my basement. It gives me a great opportunity to provide my young cousins and neighbors with a basic insight into what I do at work and what goes into producing the elecricity that we all use on a daily basis. None of this would have been possible without Rokenbok. Thank you!

Products Used: Since these photos were taken it has grown to a footprint 3ft, 6in wide x 8ft long x 6ft tall, is constructed of over 100 sets, and contains wireless cameras. Rokenbok is a wonderful combination of construction sets, ball ramps and radio control vehicles, and in my opinion should have great appeal to lots of kids (and adults).

Monorail Turning Wheel

Products Used: Monorail Start Set

What it does: If you press the x-forward button on the control pad for three minutes, the RC Monorail moves straight across the floor by itself with an occassional light push.

Products Used: ROK Works Start Set, Monorail Start Set, Pump Station Start Set, Power ROK-Lift (2x), Service Center, TransGripper & Trailer, Emergency Speedster, RC SkipTrack, RC Loader, extra controllers.

While we may be older than the average Rokenbok builder we still have just as much fun creating large intricate set-ups. We tried to use all of the products in a way that they all work together and look cool in the process. In this build the RC Loader takes roks from the quarry and takes them to the raised conveyor by way of the normal ramp or the one-way ramp made from the Service Center's doors. The conveyor takes the balls into the tower which then moves them over the monorail tracks, up another conveyor, and then sorts them. The only way for the newly sorted roks to get up the secondary tower is by way of the RC Monorail. The RC Monorail then drops the roks off into the double-high ROK-Lift. the top the lift dumps and lets the roks roll down the two tipple and then slides back into the quarry. Rokenbok Rocks!!!

This contraption carries the vehicle (RC Loader) from one platform, quickly to the next. I did not build the ramps and decks that extend from the platforms.
