Bay Area Maker Faire 2014!

Rss Feed

150,000 makers gathered at the San Mateo Event Center grounds to partake in the largest show and tell on Earth, Maker Faire. This mind-blowing spectacle included a gigantic 40 foot tall mechanical octopus that spits fire, human-size muffin (and cupcake) cars, a life-size mouse trap game, metal dragon cars, drones, 3D printing, and all things DIY.

Our Rokenbok booth took home the "Editor's Choice" award which was an exciting accomplishment. Our booth featured a community build section, a make your own ROK-a-pult (catapult) area, and a 3D printer which was printing new, never before seen Rokenbok pieces. Some of the newly-designed pieces included an iPhone mount, a GoPro mount, and a Rokenbok Arduino mount! You can download the files for free here.

In addition, Rokenbok also announced a brand new product, Maker ROK Gadgets, which features three awesome builds: a ROK-a-pult, a ROK Racer, and a ROK Grabber. Kids built ROK-a-pults and then competed by shooting at moving targets powered by an X2 Dual Drive Power Unit. The winners got to take their ROK-a-pults home as prizes. It was a big hit!

Another exciting announcement coming out of Maker Faire is two new classroom-oriented products coming out later this year. Our Rokenbok Student Engineering System (SES) will allow students to prototype and design with infinitely reusable Rokenbok materials. The SES will be paired with STEM Maker Curriculum and can facilitate projects for students K-12.
